2012 Contemplative Prayer Conference
Contemplative Outreach Birmingham
19th Annual Conference
March 10, 2012
The Welcoming Prayer and the Forgiveness Prayer
Mary Dwyer
TOPIC
WELCOMING PRAYER- What do you do when someone “pushes your buttons?” Do you react inappropriately or respond appropriately? Ever feel that once you leave the silence of Centering Prayer you are bombarded by the ordinary routines of daily life? Fr. Thomas Keating teaches that dealing with your afflictive emotions and the ordinary routines of daily life is the path of holiness for us.
The Welcoming Prayer is a wonderful tool to take our consent to God's presence and action into daily life in the midst of our afflictive emotions and ordinary routines.
FORGIVENESS PRAYER-- At the heart of the Christian Journey is forgiveness, and yet it is the one practice most often misunderstood. This simple, yet powerful meditation practice allows grace to transform our relationships (with others, God and even with ourselves) from the inside out.
SPEAKER
Mary Dwyer is a long time practitioner of Centering Prayer and former member of Chrysalis House (with Mary Mrozowski, David Frenette and Cathy McCarthy). She is currently a member of the Contemplative Outreach Resource Faculty representing the Living Flame Program and is deeply involved with the Welcoming Prayer Service Team. She was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Erie, PA until recently moving to Miami. Mary gives retreats and workshops throughout the US and Canada.

Habitat Volunteers Needed
Saint Stephen's will be participating in a Habitat Build for Habitat for Humanity. The build is on March 3rd and we need a minimum of 20 people but more if possible. We will be erecting interior walls and kids are welcomed but kids under 14 may be limited to safer work which won't be an issue unless we start on the roof. Please contact Scott Cochran for more information at 205-966-4752 or email him at shc227@me.com

GUINN FAMILY “ANGEL HOUSE”
Our parish established a relationship with Catherine Guinn and her family after a tornado severely damaged their home last April. Catherine is raising two grandchildren, Shakyra, eighteen, and Nikyria, ten. In addition, Shakyra is expecting a son this month. So far, we have helped clean, repair and organize their home. We are collecting baby items as well as everyday items in our continued support of their family. Just like our Christmas Angel Tree, you'll be asked to choose a "house" from the display, purchase the item(s) suggested on the house, and bring them to the church where we will deliver them to the Guinn Family.
